EDUCATION LAW

Mangum, Wall, Stoops and Warden, P.L.L.C. has been deeply involved in the practice of education law in Arizona for nearly fifty years. We represent numerous Arizona school districts, Bureau of Indian Affairs-funded grant schools, charter schools, and community college districts throughout the State in virtually all aspects of their legal needs. In addition, we also represent Northern Arizona University in a variety of legal matters.

Our commitment to the practice of preventive law is fundamental in our education law services. We frequently assist our education clients with policy writing and review, in-service training for elected and administrative officials. Such services are provided to preclude issues from developing into contested proceedings.

At times, in spite of best efforts, matters do develop into contested proceedings involving administrative hearings and/or litigation. When this happens, our office is there to assist the client and represent them in administrative hearings and various courts throughout the State. Our attorneys practice extensively in a variety of administrative and court venues, participating in employee and student discipline hearings, procurement disputes and litigation in state, federal and tribal courts and administrative agencies.

Because we have developed such close working relationships with educators throughout the state, we find our clients are more likely to seek early intervention from our office to address and solve problems. Early intervention allows us to work to prevent litigation whenever possible.

We are also very active in special education matters, counseling and representing schools and school districts in these disputes on a frequent basis. As our clients know, complying with laws such as the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act, can raise a whole host of legal issues. Our office and attorneys have expertise in guiding school clients through such issues. Additionally, our office has participated on behalf of clients in IEP meetings and other administrative matters involving special education.

One unique aspect of our education law practice involves the opportunity to draft and testify regarding legislation that will benefit the firm's education clients. Several of our attorneys are lobbyists on behalf of our education clients. These efforts take place both at the Arizona Legislature and before Congress on a regular basis. For instance, our attorneys routinely travel to Washington, D.C. with, and on behalf of clients to lobby the Arizona congressional delegation on issues such as impact aid, funding, and other issues unique to such schools.
