AREAS OF PRACTICE
Probate, Trusts and Estates
Ms. Munro counsels clients in establishing a comprehensive estate plan suited to each client's specific situation and circumstances. Planning begins with life documents (Living Wills, Medical Powers of Attorney and Financial Powers of Attorney) and carries through to the final Will or Trust. Ms. Munro has experience reviewing existing estate plans and recommending any necessary amendments or changes. She also counsels concerning integration of business entities into estate plans if the use of an entity or entities will serve to provide asset protection and effectuate the client's goals. Ms. Munro is also experienced in drafting Prenuptial Agreements for clients who request them as part of their estate plan.
Taxation
Ms. Munro advises clients on a wide range of taxation issues, such as how to transfer highly appreciated assets out of a corporation in the least taxable manner possible, application for an IRS determination letter concerning (501)(c)(3) status, and whether turkeys gifted by an employer to employees at Christmas time are includable in the employees. gross wages.
School Law
Ms. Munro has worked extensively on Proposition 300 issues, and provided assistance in matters relating to contracts, finance leases, intergovernmental agreements and other administrative issues for school districts, and the open meeting law for other governmental bodies.
Honors and Distinctions
During law school, Ms. Munro served as research assistant to Professor Elaine Gagliardi as she conducted seminars and edited a major treatise on Estates and Trust Law. Ms. Munro served as Secretary and then President of the Student Division for the Montana Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, was a Student Representative to the Montana State Bar Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee, and served as a volunteer for the Volunteer, IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.
Prior to joining Mangum, Wall, Stoops & Warden, P.L.L.C., Ms. Munro was an Associate with a private firm practicing estates and trust law, elder law and some business transaction law.
